Nolinski Venezia, Venice’s Newest Luxury Hotel, Offers Five Star Fun

Recently opened just steps from St. Mark’s Square, this 43 room boutique hotel is an ideal spot to call home. Your luxurious welcome begins as soon as you leave the airport; a short stroll takes you to the hotel’s private dock where you will be whisked away in a sleek water taxi. The historic building was originally the former Stock Exchange and it has been lovingly restored by the French-Italian team of Lecoadic & Scotto.

Each room is uniquely configured and they all feature extremely comfortable beds, mosaic-tiles bathrooms (and those automatic Japanese toilets), as well as original art, piles of art books and multiple pieces of Murano glass. The suites offer more space, velvet couches and some include a terrace.

While the rooms are lovely, the public spaces are even more enticing. A perfect place to plan your day, enjoy a drink or do a bit of work is the extremely cozy Library Bar. The wood-paneled room is filled with 4,000 books, oversized artwork and a stunning ceiling fresco by the artist Simon Buret that pays homage to the sea. There is also a piano, an extensive cocktail menu and several relaxing nooks. Another unusual place to relax is the rooftop, which houses an oversized jacuzzi. This is the place to enjoy 360 degree views of the city while floating in warm water. Fruit-infused water is always available, but a glass of champagne is another option.

Food is a highlight at the property. The menus have been curated by Chef Philip Chronopoulos, whose Palais Royal restaurant in Paris was awarded two stars. The extensive breakfast menu features Venetian favorites such as tramezzini (small stuffed sandwiches), as well as avocado toast, omelets, excellent homemade yogurt and delicious homemade breads. For lunch or dinner, head to Il Caffe, where you can dine al fresco in the warmer months. The service here is outstanding, but of course, the real reason to visit is the exceptional food. Why not start off with a selection of “cicchetti,” or small plates, including a pizette, fritto misto or a crostini with smoked eggplant and mozzarella.

Please pace yourself. Antipasti favorites include yellowtail carpaccio, panzanella salad with burrata and grilled octopus with artichokes. For your primi course, the linguine with lobster is exceptional and then you need to choose your secondi. The Milanese veal chop and salt crusted sea bass are highly recommended. For dessert, you can choose roasted figs with yogurt ice cream, an exceptional tiramisu or a very tasty “baba au rhum.” There is an extensive cocktail menu and a good selection of local wines. A more formal dining option, Palais Royal, will open in the spring.

Lastly, the hotel has a small treatment room where you can indulge in a first class massage or a facial featuring La Colline products. Nolinski Venezia is a welcome addition to Venice’s hotel scene, offering the best of city’s historical architecture, lovingly reimagined.
