Wimbledon LIVE: Tennis scores as Emma Raducanu bids for quarter-finals

Wimbledon match stops as crowd celebrates England reaching Euro semi-finals

Emma Raducanu returns to action at Wimbledon as she bids for the quarter-finals, after her decision to withdraw from the mixed doubles brought Andy Murray’s career at SW19 to an abrupt end.

Citing soreness in her right wrist, Raducanu prioritised her fitness for the singles as she bids to reach the quarter-finals of Wimbledon for the first time. After her storming win over Maria Sakkari, the Briton takes on qualifier Lulu Sun, the world no 123.

Raducanu is the last Briton standing in the singles draw after defeats for Cameron Norrie and Harriet Dart yesterday. She will take to Centre Court following Carlos Alcaraz, who faces Ugo Humbert, before Coco Gauff aims to reach her first Wimbledon quarter-final against Emma Navarro.

There was a shock yesterday as world No 1 Iga Swiatek was knocked out of Wimbledon by Yulia Putintseva, while Novak Djokovic recovered from a set down to reach the fourth round. After Raducanu’s decision to pull out of the mixed doubles, Murray has now played his final-ever match at the All England Club.

Wimbledon’s ‘Last 8 Club’ and why winners get free tickets for life

The fourth round of Wimbledon gets underway on Sunday with players knowing they are just one more win away from the quarter-finals of the Championships.

It’s a special stage of the tournament as the second week begins and the contenders for the titles are narrowed down, while there is also more than prize money at stake.

Reaching the quarter-finals of the men’s and women’s singles at the All England Club earns players £375,000, as well as entry into an exclusive Wimbledon group.

Emma Raducanu, Coco Gauff and Ben Shelton are among the players bidding to reach the quarter-finals of Wimbledon and the ‘Last 8 Club’ for the first time today.

Wimbledon 2024: No play before 12pm

It’s looking a little brighter at Wimbledon but still no play before 12:00pm.

Emma Raducanu has played her last two matches under the roof and clearly prefers it.

Centre Court is likely to stay closed today so that’s a boost ahead of facing Lulu Sun.

Wimbledon 2024 weather forecast: Heavy rain set to disrupt Sunday’s matches

Wimbledon is set to be disrupted by rain and wind on Sunday as players, fans and ground staff battle the elements.

The UK’s summer has barely got off the ground and the tennis at SW19 has been affected this week by spells of rain and blustery winds.

Below-average temperatures are expected on Sunday, along with heavy rain and the potential for disruption to Wimbledon and the British Grand Prix in the afternoon.

Harriet Dart expects to lose sleep over heartbreaking Wimbledon defeat

British number two Harriet Dart was braced for a sleepless night after she squandered a huge opportunity to break new ground at Wimbledon following a heartbreaking third-round defeat to Wang Xinyu.

Dart had failed to reach the last 16 of a grand slam since her main-draw debut at the All England Club six years ago, but she negotiated windy conditions and rain delays to move 5-4 up in the second before she sent a simple smash volley into the net at deuce.

It was the closest Dart would get to a match point, with further lapses of concentration in the third set after she raced into a three-game lead bringing her fine run at the Championships to an end with a 2-6 7-5 6-3 loss to Wang.

“I mean, it was a huge opportunity today. I put myself in some situations where I was up and leading,” Dart said.

“Yeah, it was really tough. I mean, to be up in two sets and come away with a loss is pretty heartbreaking, to be honest.”

Emma Raducanu fully aware of the threat qualifiers can pose at a grand slam

Emma Raducanu knows all too well the potential of qualifiers having the tournament of their lives.

The 21-year-old has revived hopes of another US Open-style run by reaching the fourth round of Wimbledon without dropping a set.

But the shoe will be on the other foot in round four when Raducanu takes on Lulu Sun, a 23-year-old from New Zealand who is on a six-match winning streak.

Raducanu famously became the first qualifier to win a grand slam title in New York in 2021, and she will be very wary of Sun’s potential to cause another shock.

Judy Murray responds to Emma Raducanu comment after shock Wimbledon doubles decision

“Not sure anyone understands sarcasm these days,” Judy said on Sunday morning. “Pretty sure the scheduling (4th match court 1 with a singles following day) will have played a major part in any decision making.”
